Brand & Visual Designer

Berlin
Part-time
Permanent employee
42,000 - 60,000 € per year

About this role

Every day, platforms decide what billions of people can say and see online — and for years, users had no real way to challenge those decisions. The EU's Digital Services Act changed that. User Rights is Germany's first certified out-of-court dispute settlement body under Article 21 DSA and the most active in Europe — working to ensure that fundamental rights are upheld in the digital space: every month, over a thousand people bring us their disputes with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn and Pinterest — deleted posts, suspended accounts, ignored reports — and we issue independent decisions on whether the platform got it right. Our work has been covered by Die Zeit, Tagesschau and Manager Magazin.

Here's the problem: almost nobody knows this right exists. Your job is to change that — by giving a brand-new digital right a face people understand, trust and remember.

Your mission

You’ll refresh our visual identity and build the design foundation for everything we produce: website, email, social media, print and, over time, user-facing products. This is a hands-on, independent role with genuine ownership — there’s no legacy brand bureaucracy, no layers of sign-off. You’ll work closely with our Communications, Marketing and UX team and shape how User Rights looks from day one.

  • Brand identity refresh. Audit our current visual identity — colour, typography, iconography, design elements — and develop it into a clear, documented brand system.

  • Template library. Build ready-to-use templates for social media, presentations, reports, flyers, website banners and email — designed so non-designers can use them independently.

  • Website & email rollout. Apply the refreshed identity across our website and email templates for a coherent look end to end.

  • Ongoing asset production. Once the foundations stand, produce assets on a rolling basis for campaigns, content and product needs.

Your profile

  • Proven experience in brand or visual identity work — with a portfolio that shows it

  • Confident across digital (web, email, social) and print, with digital first

  • Able to take a brief and turn it into a coherent, systematic visual language

  • Fluent in Figma and/or Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop)

  • Organised and self-directed — you manage a varied workload without hand-holding

  • Curious about designing for people in complex, unfamiliar, often frustrating situations — a space most designers have never touched

Nice to have

  • Video production or motion design

  • Front-end familiarity (HTML/CSS) or experience applying designs directly in a CMS

Why us?

  • Real ownership: you define the brand of a category-defining organisation — not a facelift, a foundation

  • A mission with substance: certified under EU law, covered by national media, shaping how platforms are held to account

  • A small, senior team (25+) at the intersection of law, tech and policy

  • Hybrid setup: at least 2 days/week in our Berlin office, the rest remote

  • 32 h/week with flexible scheduling

  • Salary: between 42 and 60k

The process: intro call (30 min) → portfolio deep-dive with the team → offer. We review applications on a rolling basis.
